The first prototype of the active target is a thin CVD polycrystalline diamond film of 2 x 2 cm² area and 50 μm thickness provided by Applied Diamond. The film was irradiated by means of an ArF excimer laser in the L3 Lecce Laser Laboratory in order to produce graphitic strips useful as ohmic electrodes on diamond.

The diamond detector is made up of 18 strips on both surfaces, orthogonally oriented in the two views, with a pitch of 1 mm and an inter-strip dead gap of 150 μm.

In November 2015 the prototype was tested during the beam test at the Beam Test Facility(BTF) at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati(LNF).
